The vehicle has a very strong smell of marijuana mixed with scented tree air fresheners. The car was not as shown on the website as it has been side swiped. The drivers seat seems to be stuck in partial recline. I returned the vehicle within the hour of picking it up. Sterling refused a mutual cancellation, because he does not advertise the vehicle as non-smoking and smoking marijuana is legal in AK. I have filed a dispute with Outdoorsy regarding this rental.

Alicia G., the reason I disputed the cancellation is due to the fact that you returned it 2.5 hours after it was dropped off with your adult children that I picked up from the airport. When I dropped it off it did not smell like anything but a new air-freshener. As a host, I like the cars to smell clean when I drop off a rental. You claimed that the smell made your adult daughter’s eyes water. Your Adult children inspected the car and said everything was great before departing and only after I told them to inspect it. I agreed to meet you when you decided to text me that you’d be returning it over an hour away from where it was picked up and the opposite direction you claimed your Kids were heading. I met with you and sat inside the car, the smell was neither unbearable nor was it the smell of weed. You told me you had already spoken to outdoorsy and I wouldn’t face punishment if I agreed to mutually cancel. I told you this is a means of income for me and that I can’t do that, I told you the car is in perfectly good shape and that the airfrahners of course could be removed, you said that, that wouldn't work and you already tried, I pulled the air fresheners out of the car and offered you to keep the rental and you handed me the keys and walked away.

We had an Alaskan adventure we will never forget thanks to Outdoorsy and our incredible "car host", Sterling. Sterling went above and beyond both figuratively and literally to ensure we had a great experience. When arranging the details of our car pickup, Sterling generously offered to let us borrow some of his personal camping equipment versus taking it with us on the plane which saved us a lot of hassle. He also stayed in close contact with us to make sure our trip went smoothly every step of the way. This was especially important when our car had some issues (through no fault of Sterling's) and we became stranded. , The moment we notified Sterling, he dropped everything he was doing and drove 3 hours to pick us up and take us to the airport himself. In addition to being a very considerate merchant who clearly values that his customers are happy and safe, he is a very enjoyable personality. After 3 hours spent in the car with him, we now consider him a good friend who we will keep in touch with and look up on our next trip and all future trips to Alaska So glad we went this route instead of the corporate car rental companies!
