About Sonya Andrews

We are a family of 6 who love the great outdoors glamping style. Our kids are in their 20’s but still enjoy our getaways. We would like to share a part of what we love with others.

We rented this trailer for a very specific purpose, the entire first floor of our home was lost to a water pipe leak and we were looking to find a way to stay in our house (all the bedrooms are upstairs) to oversee clean up and re-build (a 3-6 month process). We needed a kitchen, family area and substitute home office. We contracted the RV for 2 months (our mistake) but after the first week it became clear it was not going to work. The RV drew too much current and kept blowing the house circuits, making it unusable for us. We had never done anything with an RV before and so had not expected that but it seems like something the owner (who has 3 and does this as a side business) could have and should have known. It had some other issues such as using LP gas much faster than the owner indicated and overall it turned out to be unworkable for our purposes. That is fine, things sometime do not work out but the problem came when trying to get a refund. We contacted both the owner (who lives not too far from us) and Outdoorsy about these issues within ten days of starting the contract. We spent $8,300 of our insurance living expense money on this RV for a 60 day contract, we used it for 10 days and according to Outdoorsy if the contract had been ended at day 10 we were entitled to a $6,505 refund, the owner initially offered less than $1,300 wanting to keep 6 weeks worth of payments for one week's use. After weeks of back and forth and discussions and several proposals that were refused, he eventually offered about $2,500 and that was it. But then kept over half of our security deposit as a cleaning fee. It was far short of the $6,505 (this after all was living expenses for my family, I needed every dime back I could get). Outdoorsy was far more helpful in making up enough to get the refund up to $4,000, which was actually more than Outdoorsy was paid, but was still $2500 short of the initial $6,505. As I write this, this shortcoming is having some significant budget effects on us. So we used the RV for a week, was charged for close to 5 weeks and had to fight for weeks to get even half back. In any situation the contract is predicated on the concept that the product will work for the consumer and if not the consumer is entitled to a refund. The RV itself was fine but the power issue made it unworkable for us, Outdoorsy (eventually) went above and beyond to do what they could to make this right (tacitly agreeing with us about the owner) but this owner was extremely and unnecessarily difficult. We have lost the entire first floor of our house costing 6 months and close to $100,000 and this experience with this owner has been the most frustrating and difficult thing we have had to deal with, there are plenty of other people from which to rent an RV.
