This was our first experience with a Class A RV. We took the RV to Fort Wilderness at Disney with our family of four. Larry and Kelly were very friendly and it was easy to text Larry during our trip if we had any questions. The RV was spacious with very comfortable beds. Full size fridge was very helpful even for our short weekend trip. The AC works great. We learned a lot and will definitely RV again in the future.
However, I have to share that this particular RV came to us with a few issues including no working headlights. This was EXTREMELY dangerous, in fact illegal in the state of Florida, and posed a threat to our safety and everyone around us on the road.
I had the RV delivered, at an additional cost, to our home on Thursday before our trip. It was noon the next day as I was prepping the RV with our linens, food, and personal items, that Larry informed me the headlights were “giving him issues and hadn’t been fixed.” This posed a real problem for us as we had already told him we’d be driving to Disney after a Friday evening event that couldn’t be cancelled increasing our chance of being on the road after dark. Regardless of night time driving, working headlights are a MUST, even during rain.
It turned out the headlights weren’t just an issue, they DID NOT WORK! He said they flickered but actually they were just OFF and flickered ON on an occasional bump. The entire front lighting portion of the RV doesn’t work…no hazards, no headlights, no turn signals, no fog lights. We had to call an escort (photo included) to take us to our RV site. It was terrifying and should never have happened. This RV should not be rented again until the headlights are confirmed repaired.
In addition, the leather interior on the front seats and dinette of the RV are not as pictured in his listing. There is natural wear and tear but the leather is peeling and there are actually chair covers on these pieces. (See photo) Not a big deal, but wasn’t accurately depicted in his ad. Also one of the TVs in the bunks is not there. He said it was damaged from a previous renter.
Also, the slide out on the driver’s side of the RV does not have a proper seal and/or the awning doesn’t do its job. We had some rain before we left and there was water getting inside (photo). And just prior to leaving Ft Wilderness, we brought the slider in, released the jacks, and my husband had about 2 gallons of sitting water poured down his back IN THE DRIVERS SEAT. (I included a photo of the water that remained after it drenched him.)
We had an opportunity to discuss the headlight failure with Larry at RV return, along with the water inside. We were very frank about the fact it should never have happened. We felt there should have been some sort of consideration for renting an RV in this condition. The next day Larry offered a refund in the dollar amount of $275. This was the nightly rate for the RV, so a refund of 1 night, but after all the fees was only 15% of our total cost through Outdoorsy.
I will note that we failed to return the RV gas FULL, which was regretfully an oversight on our part - as we just wanted to get off the road and didn’t remember to stop for gas. Larry stated the cost was $213.80 to fill up the tank after he picked it up from us. I replied to Larry to keep the $275 he had offered and to send me the receipt for the gas and I would pay for that. He said “Let’s call it even.
I refused the $275 because I felt 15% hardly made up for the situation at hand. But I’m also not interested in bashing Larry here…I’m so grateful we were ok and no one was hurt. It’s only fair for me to state this in my review so that no future renters are stuck in the same situation as us. Once Larry makes his repairs, this RV would be an excellent one to rent.
